My Grandpa and The Canyon

Note: These pictures were taken in July 2008 (I am guessing that you have already guessed this since there are lush green plants instead of 2 feet of snow.) I didn't have a blog then, so they were never posted. As I was going through some images for a project I am working on, I found these and decided to post about them. Hope that's okay.

When I was very young, I remember making many trips up to "The Canyon." I never know how to describe this place to others because I have never seen anything like it and am sure that I probably won't any time soon. It isn't far from my Grandparent's home up a small canyon. There isn't a home on the property or any other development, so it retains it's "up-in-the-mountains" feel. I remember lots of family reunions up there in the summer and lots of sledding trips in the winter. Over the years my Grandpa has made some "improvements" in the canyon for kids. There is a big zip-line cable that is big enough to be thrilling as a kid and as an adult make your stomach jump.

But most thrilling of all is this:

It's a huge motorized swing. I don't remember exactly how old I was when this appeared (okay, I am sure it didn't just "appear" but that is how I remember it growing up), but it has provided lots of fun for me and now for my kids over the years. It accommodates up to 12 kids or 6 adults. As the swing goes around, each of the individual swings can be spun. This isn't for the faint of heart or those who get motion sickness easily.

All this fun is courtesy of my Grandpa--a man of many talents. Thanks Grandpa!

I love these pictures because this is my favorite place in the ENTIRE world!!! I love the swing and being spun super super super fast until I can't even walk straight when i get off. More than once i think i could understand how a drunk person feels from being spun so fast. I LOVE IT!!!

That truly is a beautiful area. I am grateful that your family shared your canyon with the Eddington clan one reunion year. It was a lot of fun. I was 6 months pregnant then, so I didn't do the zip line! I guess I missed out. :)

Oh man, that swing makes me sick just looking at it! I'm one of the "sick at heart" people...I get motion sick at a stop light watching the traffic moving in front of me! (seriously!) I didn't used to as a kid, though. Blame that one on pregnancy!
Looks beautiful there!

PS. Hey Brooke! Where is your blog? Gayle keeps saying on this blog that you are into photography too. I'd love to see your pictures!

Yes, this place is "unique". My kids still talk about that family reunion the Eddingtons had there. If one weekend had that kind of impact on my kids, I can only imagine what a lifetime of memories would hold. Good times.
