In the Mood for a Black and White

I posted some of these pictures yesterday, but I have one more to add. Sometimes a good black and white just hits the spot and this one hit the spot for me yesterday. The eye naturally tends to wander to the lightest tones in a photo. In a good black and white those light tones are usually (generalizing here) skin tones. This photo is very simple and the black and white naturally draws attention to the face. Thanks for looking!

I never knew that the eye tends to go to the lightest part of a picture. You're right! In this picture my eye went right to her upper left cheekbone, which is the lightest part of the picture.

I loved your tip about "getting in close" a few months ago. I've tried to do that as I take pictures now. (Doesn't always work with my simple camera. I need a good zoom like yours.) I'd love another post about simple things to do to take a better picture!

Laurel--I will work on some more simple photography ideas. I really wasn't sure if anyone was interested.
